Pathology of Bennett's Brain Tumor

EDIT: I changed the title because I am in a shitty mood.

Now I have a new thing to try to learn all I can about on the Internet. As of 5 minutes ago, I learned the term Oligoastrocytoma (grade II). That's the tumor that was in Bennett's head. Now I have to search the web now for a while and find out all I can about it. I really know nothing about it other than it's name. Weird how a whole new world suddenly opens up when you hear a new medical term about something your loved one has that you know so little about.

The woman I spoke to said they were going to have his case reviewed this coming Tuesday at their 'tumor board' or something, and then call us also. They are also sending us the pathology print-out, but it won't go out until Tuesday so I can't study it until then.

More as I know it of course.

  1. Well having a name is something. It's a place to go from.

Please let us know what you find out about what it is, how it appears, and what it can do. Stuff like that.

Hope there is no need for further medical intervention.

Tomorrow I'm going to have a psychiatrist's appointment so I bet I'm going to come home with so studies to do too. Especially on new meds, and their interaction with the Autonomous Nervous System (all 3 of them).

  2. To boldly go where no man has gone before ...and you will because that's what you do.Thinking of you all and Bennett as you navigate, yet again,a whole new world.

  3. Or in our case (mine and Ken):

"To Baldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before"

  4. Well I guess at least now you have a name. And that will help determine if there needs to be anything further done. I know astrocytoma, but not oligoastrocytoma.

I will be doing lots of research so that I know what you are talking about in the next post that gives us more info. I'm sorry it is not cut and dried.

Y'all are all in my prayers. I wish I could do more.

  5. You certainly are getting a medical lesson! I looked it up in Wikipedia and didn't understand a large amount of it all.

Still hoping, thinking about and praying for you all.

  6. How about you let me jump to conclusions for awhile...I promise I'll give it back to you. You deserve to enjoy Bennett as he is today, and tomorrow.

  7. I can only imagine how devastating it must be to get this nugget just before a holiday weekend when the people you would like to talk to are out of the office. Both my husband Nick and I send our warmest regards. We hope Bennett does not have to undergo more treatment or surgeries.

  8. OK...Well, I guess now you move forward into this next phase...

Hopefully you will be getting alot more information after Tuesday with some further direction...It seems these docs have been wonderful so far with your boy...

I just google the term...Wonder if THAT was the real CAUSE of the seizures to begin with?

Getting new medical info on a Friday afternoon? I HATE when that happens!! Really sucks big time....

I hope y'all are continuing to rest...I will wait anxiously for further news...

    I'm still sending up prayers...

  9. It's fucked up that they called you Friday evening...unless they made some promise to call by then. Tuesday will not come fast enough. I will be thinking of you all tremendously this weekend.

  10. oh Ken - I just want to puke for you guys! Seriously. I mean yuck!

Of course when I first started seeing some of the follow up comments on the IS board I feared Bennett was having seizures again - then I kept reading.

    I say again YUCK

But you know Maddie made it through Chemo. And Becca had optic Glioma (benign tumor on her optic nerve) - and made it through chemo. So Bennett will too.

You'll continue to be in our prayers.

  11. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers...
    Stay strong.
    Hannah and Blitzen

  12. I liked the old title.....when I saw the new one, I thought it was a new post and was shocked that you got more info over the weekend.

You have every right to be in a shitty mood. Wish I could help.

  13. So, I've already commented once before. But, after looking this up a little, I had to come back...and agree with Elaine verbatim. Why on earth would they call and drop this bomb on a Friday evening of a holiday weekend? To make you google out of you mind for three days? Anyway, just know that we are all here thinking of you guys and praying for the best possible outcome. I adore that little Bennett and want all this crap to be done with already for him. For you and Jen too.
